According The Happy Pet Project’s Managing Director of Innovative Programs And Advocacy Leah Bocanegra,

“North Texas shelters are overwhelmed with animals in need daily. Some shelters offer basic medical care but don’t have the resources for complex needs. Without immediate medical care, many companion animals face an uncertain future. That is where the compassion and dedication of rescues like The Happy Pet Project come in.

“Our organization is dedicated to ending the overpopulation of companion animals in Texas through rescue, rehabilitation and adoption.

“Our mission goes beyond just saving lives; it’s about creating a community where animal welfare organizations can work together with community pet owners to increase the health, happiness, and fulfillment of pets, their owners, and animal welfare workers and volunteers.

“A true reflection of this is our Second Chance Emergency Medical initiative. It’s a lifeline for pets facing injury or illness. The funds raised on Communities Foundation of Texas’ North Texas Giving Day are essential, enabling us to give these pets the second chance at the happy life they truly deserve.

“2024 has been a year of transformation and hope for our organization. One of our shining stars is Hugo, a 6-year-old French Bulldog who arrived at the shelter in desperate need of care. He was underweight, filthy and struggled to walk. Despite his condition, Hugo’s spirit never wavered. Diagnosed with Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD), Hugo underwent crucial medical assessments, including an MRI and spine tap. These tests transformed his daunting situation into something manageable by revealing what Hugo needed to live a happy and comfortable life. With a comprehensive care plan tailored to his needs, we ensured his well-being and provided peace of mind for his future family.

“Another example is my current Happy Pet foster, Jordan, who was brought into the shelter as a 3-month-old stray, infested with parasites and suffering from severe head trauma. Her condition was so painful that she was given only hours to live. Our team rushed her to the vet, where they discovered the extent of her injuries. She had a fracture, and her eyes needed to be removed immediately. Despite everything she has been through, Jordan shows us every day the power of a second chance. Jordan greets each day and every person with boundless joy. Her resilience and trust in our volunteers and the community that made her recovery possible are truly inspiring. Now, she spends her days confidently exploring the world and stealing the hearts of our volunteers as we search for her forever home.

“Communities Foundation of Texas’ North Texas Giving Day has been instrumental in our efforts. We have raised over $15,000 in the past two years, supporting our mission and helping us save over 200 dogs. When you donate on North Texas Giving Day, you are showing pets like Jordan and Hugo that even when times are hard, their second chance at life truly matters.

“This North Texas Giving Day, Hugo, Jordan, and the entire team at The Happy Pet Project welcome you to join our community. Your support towards our $10,000 goal on North Texas Giving Day is immensely appreciated.”
