Celeb Hairstylist Mel Dominguez Shares How to Nail Festival Looks That Will Withstand the Heat

Good music and good hair! Mel Dominguez has created iconic hairdos for hitmakers like Madison Beer, Kim Petras, Bebe Rexha, and Dasha for performances, award shows, red carpet events, photo shoots, and more, and now, the celebrity hairstylist is sharing her tips for achieving flowy, durable mane looks ahead of the 2025 festival season.

“No matter the occasion, long-lasting hair starts with the right prep. … A simple, but effective routine can keep hair looking fresh, full, and flawless for hours on end,” she explains.

Her advice: “Double cleanse the night before with the OGX Bond Protein Repair Shampoo to strengthen and protect strands, or if you’re looking to refresh your scalp and remove product buildup, the OGX Rosemary Mint Shampoo is a great clarifying option.”

From there, Dominguez suggests skipping heavy conditioners in order to maintain voluminous locks when heading to the desert.

“Opt for the OGX Bond Protein Repair Lightweight Conditioner to strengthen and repair hair with the right amount of moisture, or the OGX Coconut Oil Weightless Mist to control frizz without weighing it down. … For added lift and hold, apply the OGX Volumizing Spray at the roots on damp hair before styling.”

Next up, it’s time to embrace the less is more approach so that you can dance along to your favorite performers all day and night.

“This festival season, it’s all about letting the hair speak for itself with a fresh, unfussy feel. … We’ll see a lot of natural textures, whether that’s soft waves, airy curls, or tousled, undone styles that feel easy, yet elevated. … These styles not only hold up better throughout the day, but also enhance your hair’s unique beauty,” she explains.

“The era of over-accessorizing is taking a step back. While playful accents like ribbons or subtle embellishments can still add charm, too many can take away from the beauty of the hair itself,” Dominguez notes.

As for what you should still pack? “Silk scrunchies and claw clips are absolute lifesavers for quick style changes or taming hair in the heat. Pairing them with a mini brush or comb ensures you’re always ready for a quick refresh,” Dominguez shares.

“For touch-ups, the OGX Bond Protein Repair 3-in-1 Oil Mist is a must-have. Its compact size makes it easy to throw in your bag, and a drop or two helps to smooth fly aways, protect strands, control frizz, and add instant shine,” she continues.
