The pursuit of longevity has been taken to new heights by millionaire tech entrepreneur Bryan Johnson, who is at the forefront of the movement looking for new ways to reverse aging and extend healthspan, and live to age 150.<\/p>\n

But Johnson\u2019s latest escapade went seriously wrong.<\/p>\n

Johnson posted<\/a> to his Instagram on November 14 a jarring close-up of his face, bloated and red, after an attempt to inject a \u201cdonor\u2019s\u201d fat into his face to attain a more youthful look.<\/p>\n

The idea came as a result of Johnson\u2019s weight loss from his strict 1,950-calorie diet.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got really lean and lost a lot of fat\u2014especially in my face. My biomarkers were improving, but I looked gaunt,\u201d Johnson wrote in his caption. \u201cPeople thought I was on the brink of death.\u201d<\/p>\n

That\u2019s what prompted him to initiate what he called, \u201cProject Baby Face,\u201d an attempt to bring youthfulness back into his face.<\/p>\n

\u201cFacial fat, we discovered, is pretty important for how people perceive youth,\u201d Johnson wrote. \u201cIt didn\u2019t matter how good my biomarkers were if I didn\u2019t have face fat.\u201d<\/p>\n

Johnson says he didn\u2019t have enough fat on his own body to inject into his face, hence the need for a donor. His body quickly rejected the fat, though.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cImmediately following the injections, my face began to blow up. And then it got worse, and worse, and worse until I couldn\u2019t even see,\u201d Johnson\u2019s caption says. \u201cIt was a severe allergic reaction.\u201d<\/p>\n

That complicated his plans for the rest of the day. With a swollen face, Johnson went to his scheduled meeting 30 minutes later with a Bloomberg reporter, warning him that he \u201cmight not recognize\u201d Johnson.<\/p>\n

Seven days later, Johnson\u2019s face was back to normal, he says. \u201cAnd we were back in the trenches reformulating plans for our next attempt,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

Johnson\u2019s longevity efforts under his Project Blueprint have included receiving blood transfusions from his teenage son\u2014with the idea that this \u201cyoung blood\u201d procedure (which is not FDA approved) will help reverse aging, adhering to a rigid diet which includes a slew of Blueprint-branded supplements, and undergoing regular gene therapy injections.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
