The Los Angeles Dodgers reinstated star Shohei Ohtani from the paternity list on Sunday and designated outfielder Eddie Rosario for assignment.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

\n

The move comes one day after Ohtani announced that he and his wife, Mamiko Tanaka, welcomed a baby girl. He also texted Dodgers manager Dave Roberts on Saturday and said he would join the team in Arlington, Texas, on Sunday for the series finale against the Rangers.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

\n

He was in the lineup on Sunday and batting in the leadoff spot.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

\n

Ohtani went on the paternity list Friday in anticipation of the birth. <\/p>\n<\/section>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

After Sunday’s series finale, Los Angeles is off Monday and opens a two-game road set against the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

\n

Ohtani, 30, is batting .288 with six homers in 20 games this season, but has knocked in just eight runs and scored 21.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

\n

The three-time MVP is in his eighth season and won his first two MVP awards with the Los Angeles Angels. He joined the Dodgers prior to last season and has 231 career homers in 895 games.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

\n

Rosario, 33, went 1-for-4 in two games this season.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

\n

Rosario has a .261 career average with 169 homers and 583 RBIs in 1,123 games with the Minnesota Twins (2015-20), Cleveland Guardians (2021), Atlanta Braves (2021-23, 2024) and Washington Nationals (2024). He was batting .339 with two homers and 12 RBIs in 14 games at Triple-A Oklahoma City before being called up.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n
