The company has struggled to maintain a competitive edge amid ongoing financial losses and strategic setbacks in the AI and semiconductor markets.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n<p>\u201cThere are no more blank checks,\u201d Tan wrote in a memo to employees, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/intel-is-cutting-more-jobs-ceo-tan-tries-fix-manufacturing-missteps-2025-07-24\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"Go to https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/intel-is-cutting-more-jobs-ceo-tan-tries-fix-manufacturing-missteps-2025-07-24\/\" class=\"sc-19cc8fd2-0 iHosVH\">published by Reuters<\/a>. \u201cEvery investment must make economic sense. We will build what our customers need, when they need it, and earn their trust through consistent execution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>The memo directly addresses \u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A reduction of about 15% (over 25,000 jobs) via layoffs and attrition<\/li>\n<li>Operational streamlining to \u201cdrive greater efficiency and increase accountability at every level\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Cancellation of new factory projects in Germany and Poland, and a slowdown in Ohio facility construction, adjusting spending to actual market demand<\/li>\n<li>Relocation of manufacturing operations from Costa Rica to Asia, while maintaining select engineering functions in Costa Rica<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cWe are making hard but necessary decisions to streamline the organization, drive greater efficiency, and increase accountability at every level of the company,\u201d wrote the CEO, who took over in March.<\/p>\n<p>Intel\u2019s stock jumped early in 2025 as optimism built around new leadership, but shares fell over 9% after Thursday\u2019s Q2 earnings and layoff announcement, threatening to erase most yearly gains.<\/p>\n<p>Intel has lost ground to Nvidia in the AI sector and to AMD in the traditional computing market. Unlike other Silicon Valley giants, it doesn\u2019t have booming AI or cloud businesses to offset its losses.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft, IBM, and Google have also shed thousands of workers this year.
