That&#8217;s why many experts <a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1002\/oby.24336\">recommend eating a well-balanced diet<\/a> for the best results.<\/p>\n<p>But what exactly does that mean? While there\u2019s no one-size-fits-all answer, there are some general guidelines on what to eat while on Ozempic or any other semaglutide medications. <\/p>\n<p>We spoke with registered dietitian and MyFitnessPal Scientific Advisor <a href=\"https:\/\/mayafellernutrition.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Maya Feller , MS, RD, CDN<\/a> who shared some of the foods that may be most helpful.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-bone-broth\"><strong>1. Bone broth<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fdc.nal.usda.gov\/food-details\/2138218\/nutrients\">Bone broth<\/a> pulls double duty as both a protein source and a hydration source. Dr. Feller recommends drinking 8 ounces a day as part of your daily liquid intake.<\/p>\n<p>Because <a href=\"https:\/\/fdc.nal.usda.gov\/food-details\/2138218\/nutrients\">bone broth<\/a> contains electrolytes like sodium, potassium, and magnesium, it may help keep you hydrated better than plain water, one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC8465972\/\">study<\/a> shows.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-dates\"><strong>2. Dates<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cI really believe people who enjoy sweets should have them, in a mindful and intentional way, if they want to\u201d Feller says. \u201cIt makes us all happier.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>To satisfy that sugary craving, she recommends dates. They\u2019re a <a href=\"https:\/\/fdc.nal.usda.gov\/food-details\/2709203\/nutrients\">good source of fiber<\/a> and may not spike your blood sugar as much as other dried fruits, when consumed in moderation.<\/p>\n<p>One thing to note: If you\u2019re dealing with early satiety, Feller advises limiting how many dates you\u2019re snacking on at a time. &#8220;Protein is very important,&#8221; she explains, &#8220;so don\u2019t fill up on dates and miss out on that important macronutrient.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-tofu\"><strong>3. Tofu<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Protein is an essential macronutrient for everyone, including those who are on semaglutide. Dr. Feller is a big fan of plant protein in particular, pointing out that most Americans aren&#8217;t eating nearly enough plants on a day-to-day basis.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She likes tofu as a healthy plant-based protein source. Seafood<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Not only is seafood another good source of <a href=\"https:\/\/fdc.nal.usda.gov\/food-details\/2706285\/nutrients\">lean protein, it also contains polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs)<\/a>. Studies have shown these PUFAs to have <a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC7554783\/\">anti-inflammatory properties<\/a>, which can help prevent health conditions like arthritis and cardiovascular disease, as well as improvements in blood<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC2719153\/#:~:text=Ultimately%2C%20n%2D3%20PUFAs%20may,)%3B%20inhibiting%20platelet%20aggregation%20and\"> pressure<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As for what specific seafood is best? Dr. Feller says whatever is accessible and affordable will do, whether that\u2019s shrimp, salmon, or any other kind of fish. The key is to choose seafood that is as close to its unadulterated form as possible, with minimal added sugar, salt, or fat.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-5-summer-squash-and-cucumbers\"><strong>5. Summer Squash and cucumbers<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Staying hydrated while on semaglutide medications is important. And while drinking water is an easy way to do that, you can also rehydrate by eating certain foods.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Feller suggests adding more vegetables with a <a href=\"https:\/\/health.clevelandclinic.org\/hydrating-foods\">high water content<\/a>\u2014like cucumbers and zucchini\u2014into your diet. Not only will these provide you with more fluid to help with digestion, they also have some nutritional value. Win-win.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-6-cruciferous-vegetables\"><strong>6. Cruciferous vegetables<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Dr. Feller likes cruciferous veggies like cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, or Brussels sprouts primarily for the gut health benefits. They contain certain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC2728691\/\">compounds<\/a> that can promote the growth of healthy gut bacteria and contribute to a healthy microbiome. Some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cancer.gov\/about-cancer\/causes-prevention\/risk\/diet\/cruciferous-vegetables-fact-sheet\">research<\/a> has shown this may reduce the risk of certain types of cancer, too.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re also high in fiber, which can help <a href=\"https:\/\/pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/articles\/PMC7589116\/#sec5-nutrients-12-03209\">improve digestion and keep you regular<\/a>.
