Now They\u2019re Divided.<\/h2>\n<h4 class=\"css-qsd3hm\">In \u201cDivided,\u201d four former D.E.I. leaders come together to examine the system they once built \u2014 and question what it\u2019s really doing.<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<dl class=\"css-p98d0w\">\n<dt class=\"css-xx7kwh\"\/>\n<dd class=\"css-4gvq6l\">\n<p class=\"css-8hvvyd\">[MUSIC PLAYING] One common D.E.I. practice we can all agree needs to be eliminated is: Training. \u201cHello, and welcome to Training on Workplace Harassment.\u201d Diversity statements. \u201cMost job applications require, what, a r\u00e9sum\u00e9, maybe a few references. But at the University of Washington you\u2019ll also need a one-page diversity statement.\u201d I would just say, there shouldn\u2019t be any D.E.I. Is the Civil Rights Act enough? Yeah, we have laws, right, and enforcement. So if \u2014\u2014 We don\u2019t have enforcement. There\u2019s no enforcement anymore. That\u2019s been dismantled. The E.E.O.C. has been \u2014\u2014 That\u2019s not true. \u2014\u2014 dismantled from what \u2014 oh yes. If that\u2019s the case, then that\u2019s the mission. We need to \u2014\u2014 But that\u2019s not true. You work at an organization, you\u2019re telling me you\u2019ve never seen a lawsuit where a woman or said person files \u2014\u2014 For the past two years? \u2014\u2014 and, oh, there is \u2014\u2014 It is not being implemented. Oh, it happens all the time. There are tremendous settlements. I would say one thing to eliminate is diversity offices. I don\u2019t disagree with that. Over the course of this conversation, I\u2019ve changed my mind about: Oh, everybody\u2019s looking at me.
