Collin College expands continuing education offerings with medical massage, welding programs

Collin College announced three new continuing education program offerings on Aug. 30. The programs include a medical massage therapy course, welding courses taught in Spanish and an online product management course.

The new programs are enrolling students for the fall semester, according to the release.

The details

The new programs aim to offer career advancement and personal growth. The medical massage therapy program specifically looks to provide “in-demand training for a fast-growing field,” the release stated.

“We are excited to bring this great opportunity to learners interested in this career who can learn all the fundamentals of massage therapy and pursue careers in various settings, including spas, hospitals, sporting facilities and private practices,” Nicole Green, medical massage therapy program coordinator, said in the release.

The program will offer medical massage services at a low cost for community members, the release stated. The program is currently taught at the McKinney campus, according to the school’s website.

Diving in deeper

Welding I and II courses will now be offered in a Spanish-language format as part of the program expansions. The new program is intended to aid the shortage of welders in the workforce, the release states.

The welding program includes hands-on experience as well as education on safe welding practices, welding equipment, and common and advanced welding techniques.

“These programs will provide basic knowledge for a career in welding,” welding program Director Brian Sanders said in the release. “We hope that teaching these skills in Spanish will welcome a diverse group of learners who won’t allow language to be a barrier from earning an education in welding.”

Also of note

The product management program expansion includes offering the course fully online, the release states. The course focuses on fundamental instruction of product management as well as product launch and product strategy.

“This offering is perfect for seasoned professionals looking to pivot their career or advance

in their current roles,” Director of Continuing Education Programming Jeanne Johnson said in the release. “With the program being online, it’s a convenient way for working learners to take advantage of this opportunity.”
